What Did It Cost?

How much did an ounce of silver cost?

An ounce of silver cost $4.82 in 1990 and $28.37 in 2024: about 5.9 times as much.

Over the same years, prices in general (US inflation, measured by the consumer price index, CPI) rose about 2.4 times. That makes $4.82 in 1990 worth about $11.57 in 2024 money. So it got more expensive even after inflation: about 145% more, in real terms, than in 1990.

The biggest change between two listed years came between 2005 and 2010, when it went up 175%, from $7.34 to $20.20.
